History:
In 1926, potter Carl Hallier founded a small studio, Københavns Stentøjsbrænderi, with sculptor Arne Bang. Axel Salto joined in 1929, and his collaboration with Hallier proved pivotal. They experimented with form and glaze, influenced by Hallier’s concurrent work at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory. This overlap explains the similarities in the ceramics from both workshops. This vase was produced during that significant period. By late 1930, Hallier left the studio due to a conflict of interest with Royal Copenhagen, where he continued full-time. Salto also departed, later becoming a ‘paying guest’ at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory in 1933.
