History:
Anna Petrus (1886–1949) trained as a sculptor in London and Stockholm, but after a studio fire in 1920 destroyed much of her early work, she shifted towards applied arts. Travels in Italy, North Africa and Paris inspired her decorative style where mythological figures, lions and lush ornament often recur. In the early 1920s she collaborated with architect and designer Uno Åhrén, sharing an interest in uniting modern form with artisanal craft. This table was commissioned in 1922 by Anders and Margareta Hedberg, created just before she began her long association with Svenskt Tenn in 1924.
