Moulded plywood. Stamped "Molded Plywood Division, Los Angeles, California".
Designed 1942. Charles and Ray Eames designed a lightweight, inexpensive leg splint for the United States Navy During World War II. The resulting design is a highly sculptural yet functional device that could be mass-produced plus conveniently and inexpensively transported. In its three-dimensional, biomorphic form, the leg splint suggests the Eames' subsequent, highly influential plywood furniture designs.
